Hang maki aku, aku maki hang!

Farhan Shah

Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah told the Star daily that the protest over the two women - rock singer Ella (left) and Mas Idayu, who performs the hip-swivelling dangdut dance - was "hypocritical" and "trivial" (Malaysiakini 18/6/08)

“They (Pas Youth) should go live in a cave!” This was the response by Karyawan president Freddie Fernandez when asked to comment on the call by Selangor Pas Youth to ban Ella and Mas Idayu from performing at the Sultan of Selangor Cup on July 6 (Malay Mail 18/6/08)

In the memorandum submitted three days ago to the state government, state PAS Youth chief Sallehen Mokhyi had said that the performances by singers Mas Idayu and Ella were inappropriate for youngsters and their dressing did not follow the values of Islamic and Malay cultures.

Mas told The Star that in her 15 years in the entertainment industry she only wore dresses and pants when performing. (The Star 19/6/08)

It's best if PAS Youth publishes evidence of 'activities' (paham2lah sendiri, tapi jangan publish yang clear pulak) normally done doing concerts in Malaysia. Otherwise, it's hard to convince even other PAS members to defend PAS Youth.

Or else, let them party and spend time to take fresh evidence.

It's not a question of 'ignorance'. Most know what is permitted and what is not not. It's a question of whether one wants to follow or not and for one to have the liberty of making that choice. The choice must not be dictated to by other people.
If one finds the proposed concert offensive, do not go. But allow other people to do so if they don't find it offensive. Do not dictate. We live in the 21st century, not the 7th. We live in Malaysia. Not Waziristan.
